Under the table deals and how to spot them

0

Nowadays you often here the expression “under the table deal” if you talk about rakeback. Some players heard of it but not everybody knows exactly what this “under the table” means. So, we’ll explain it in this short article.

An under the table rakeback deal is a deal that is not officially offered by the pokerroom and/or is handled behind his back by the affiliate. So that means the affiliate gets a 50 % affiliate deal and the data of his player (which is pretty common nowadays). Then, he has the ability to pay rakeback like he wants to. He can negotiate a 49 % or 20 % or whatever rakeback deal with the player without letting the pokeroom know. If the pokerroom does not allow rakeback he has a problem because that affiliate is paying rakeback although it’s not allowed!

As a player you should also care about the relationship between affiliate and pokerroom. If the affiliate is operating “under the table” and it’s likely that the pokerroom does not like it the affiliate could lose his deal and wont be able to pay his players! Then it can hurt you although you’re not involved in this.

And besides that there’s the risk the affiliate terminates his business, is a shady person, on vacation or whatever. In this case you won’t receive your rakeback payment! And that is indeed a high risk.

So you should not take any under the table deals if you don’t trust your affiliate and the pokeroom fully. But the big question his how you can spot an under the table deal?

Fortunately it’s pretty simple. To handle any under the table payments the affiliate must know your username, email or something to identify you. He will ask for your username after you signed up to proceed payments. If he doesn’t it’s not an under the table deal! Because if he has no account information he could not handle payments! Top-Rakeback doesn’t work under the table with iPoker rakeback. The deal is accepted by the pokerroom that also handles payments. That’s why we’ll never ask for a username after you signed up.
